Treatment for Inflamed and Bleeding Gums

Inflammation of the gums is known as gingivitis. Symptoms include red swollen gums which may be tender and easy bleeding on brushing. If left untreated, inflammation will spread to the tissues surrounding roots of the teeth in the jawbone (periodontitis) and lead to loosening and loss of teeth or tooth abscess. These conditions are usually associated with bad breath (halitosis).

Gingivitis is due to a build-up of plaque and food particles between the teeth. Always see your dentist regularly for a six-monthly check-up; brush your teeth at least twice a day (and preferably after each meal), and use dental floss to remove food particles lodged between the teeth. Coenzyme Q10 50mg (daily) can help reverse gum inflammation and promote healing. You should also consider taking vitamin C (at least 1g daily, preferably with bioflavonoids) to help prevent gum inflammation and bleeding and vitamin E (400IU daily).
